The Virgina Theatre was renamed the August Wilson Theatre in 2005, honoring the American playright. This theatre was built in 1925 by the Theatre Guild as a home base for its repertory company. President Coolidge officially opened the theatre by pushing an electric button in Washington, DC. Seating capacity is 1,275. As one of the Great White Way Broadway Theaters, this theater is located in the famous Broadway Theater District, home to over 40 theaters within a 10 block strip of Manhattan (from 53rd Street to 42nd Street, between 6th and 8th Avenues).
